Material for making center cap

Jekit has four different designs: original / floating /flower /dump

Jekit's center cap and caliper support are mainly made of the following materials: aluminum alloy 6061-T6, aluminum alloy t-7075 and 45 steel.

Aluminum alloy has the characteristics of high strength, light weight and good heat dissipation. For the braking system, aluminum alloy has great advantages, so aluminum alloy is used in most cases.

6061-T6: aluminum alloy element accounts for 97.9%, magnesium element accounts for 1%, silicon element accounts for 0.6%, and 0.28% copper and 0.2% chromium are added.

T-7075: the main aluminum and zinc metal elements account for 90% and 5.6% respectively, while magnesium accounts for 2.5%, copper accounts for 1.6%, chromium accounts for 0.23%, and finally the rest are silicon, manganese, titanium and other metal elements.

Generally speaking, the strength of 7075 aluminum alloy is higher than that of 6061 aluminum alloy, which is mainly because the content of aluminum alloy in 7075 aluminum alloy is nearly 8% less than that in 6061.

45 steel is generally applied to supports with limited data. (for example, there are few threads and the length is short. The whole strength needs to be guaranteed, which can not be achieved by aluminum alloy)

Classification and braking effect of brake disc

Disc brake disc is divided into solid disc (single disc) and air duct disc (double disc), perforated ventilation disc, scribed ventilation disc, floating ventilation disc and ceramic ventilation disc. Solid disks are easy for us to understand. Frankly, it is solid. As the name suggests, the air duct board has ventilation effect. From the appearance, it has many holes leading to the center of the circle on the circumference, which is called air duct. When the vehicle is running, the air passes through the air duct to achieve the purpose of heat dissipation, which is better than the solid heat dissipation effect

Ventilation slot brake disc:The ventilated brake disc is ventilated and can play a better heat dissipation effect than the solid disc. The side of an ordinary ventilation disc is as flat as a solid disc. The ventilation holes can be seen in the longitudinal direction, and the structure inside is intricate and alternating, because it is necessary to ensure the heat flow and the rigidity of the brake disc at the same time.

Casting standard of brake disc

As for the casting standard of brake disc, the brake disc material on the Chinese market mainly adopts the Chinese gray cast iron 250 standard, referred to as HT250, which is equivalent to the American G3000 standard. Gray cast iron has good casting performance, vibration damping, wear resistance, good cutting performance and low notch sensitivity, and has been widely used in the automotive brake Market, The main constituent elements of gray cast iron are carbon C, silicon Si and manganese Mn. The important standard for testing brake discs is carbon content, which directly affects the friction coefficient. At present, the carbon content of ordinary brake discs on the market is about 3%.

How to install the brake disc

1. Prepare all the necessary tools, then start to remove the screws and remove the tire hub with tools.

2. Clean the brake disc with rust remover to facilitate the disassembly of wheel cylinder and wheel assembly.

3. Remove the front wheel bearing cover with special tools to prevent damaging the sealing effect of the bearing cover.

4. Remove the front brake disc baffle.

5. Install a new brake disc baffle and install the front wheel bearing and bearing cover according to the requirements.

6. Mount the wheel cylinder bracket. After installing the brake pad, press the upper wheel cylinder, tighten the screws between the wheel cylinder and the bracket, and then install the hub.

Daily maintenance method of brake disc

The brake disc will generate a lot of heat when braking, so don't wash the car immediately after braking. Turn off the engine to reduce the surface temperature of the brake disc and prevent the high-temperature brake disc from deforming and cracking due to thermal expansion and contraction in contact with cold water.

In addition, the best way to improve the service life of the brake disc is to maintain good driving habits and try to avoid sudden braking and sudden stop.

WHEN TO REPLACE BRAKE ROTORS

The timing for replacement of the brake rotors depends on the automaker’s standards and your habits as a driver. An inspection at Firestone Complete Auto Care can determine whether it’s time to get new brake rotors. If your car begins pulsating or wobbling during braking, or your brakes begin squealing, screeching, or squeaking, let the professionals at Firestone Complete Auto Care inspect your entire brake system, including your brake rotors.

HOW LONG DO BRAKE ROTORS LAST?

Brake rotors can last 15,000 to 70,000 miles. However, brake rotors' actual lifespan depends on several factors, such as your driving style and your vehicle.

BRAKE ROTOR RESURFACING

In some cases, brake rotors can be resurfaced rather than being replaced. When rotors are resurfaced, some of the metal is removed to bring back a smooth, even braking surface. However, resurfacing won’t work if the rotors have become too thin. They also can’t be resurfaced if there’s been too much damage, such as severe cracking or grooving.A Firestone Complete Auto Care professional can determine whether your rotors can be resurfaced or need to be replaced

How disc brakes work

When the driver steps on the brake pedal, the power is amplified by the brake booster (servo system) and changed into a hydraulic pressure (oil-pressure) by the master cylinder. The pressure reaches the brakes on the wheels via tubing filled with brake oil (brake fluid). The delivered pressure pushes the pistons on the brakes of the four wheels. The pistons in turn press the brake pads, which are friction material, against the brake rotors which rotate with the wheels. The pads clamp on the rotors from both sides and decelerate the wheels, thereby slowing down and stopping the vehicle.

Main components of disc brakes

Main components of floating type disc brakes
There are two types of disc brakes. One is called the "opposed piston type disc brake" which has pistons on both sides of the disc rotor, and the other is the "floating type disc brake" which has a piston on only one side. The floating type disc brakes are also called the sliding pin type disc brakes.
