How to clean the brake caliper

Step 1- Delete caliper

First loosen the lugs on the wheel slightly. Park the vehicle on the jack support, then release the jack and remove the wheel. Open the engine hood and brake fluid master cylinder. Apply fresh-keeping film on the top of the liquid and cover it to keep most of the vacuum on the brake fluid.

Next, loosen the brake line slightly. Do not unscrew it completely and place a tray under it to catch any dripping water. Pry out the caliper spring clip with a screwdriver, and you should be able to see the outside caliper.

If the guide bolts on the caliper have covers, these can be removed. Then, you can loosen and remove the caliper bolts and take the caliper to close the rotor. Once the caliper is free, remove the brake pads from the caliper

Step 2 - release the caliper

You'll find brake lines on the calipers. When pulling out the caliper, be sure not to twist the wire. Take out and insert the vacuum cap made of rubber into the end. Put the end of the wire into the tray to prevent leakage.

Step 3- Prepare for cleaning

The piston on the brake caliper needs to be accessible in order to clean it. To do this, you need a compressed air source and an air nozzle. We also need a small board, which is 0.5 inches thick. Place the wood between the caliper and the outer flange on the piston.

Insert the nozzle into the brake line bore on the caliper and compress a little compressed air through it. This will force the piston away. Make sure the hand is away from this, as it will produce considerable force.

Step 4- clean

To clean the piston, use brake fluid and use a scrub pad to remove hard dirt and grease. If any dents are found in the piston, it needs to be replaced. To clean the caliper, use a scrub brush and brake fluid, which is the best way to remove grease and dirt.

matters needing attention

For smaller areas, you need to use an old toothbrush that can penetrate small areas. Do this outdoors or at least in a well ventilated place.

Where dirt still exists, check the brake caliper again until it is completely clean. Replace the piston and reinstall the brake line before returning the brake caliper to the wheel.

Not many people want to clean their brake calipers, but it is an important part of maintenance. All these are the four steps.
