How to replace car brake pads?

1.There is no fixed replacement cycle for brake pads

It is recommended that the brake pads be replaced every 30000 km, but everyone has different driving habits and different wear conditions. Therefore, if the brake pad warning light is on, or if the brake makes a "squeak" sound every time, it needs to be checked or replaced. It doesn't necessarily depend on the mileage.

2.Replace the brake pads

Tools for replacing brake pads: brake pads of corresponding models, 2 wrenches, universal lubricating antirust agent, piston jacking.

Before replacing the brake pads, put down the handbrake, then jack up the car and remove the tires. We can see the brake pump on the brake disc, and the brake pads are hidden in the brake pump.

Then start to remove the brake cylinder. First screw down the fixing screw on the brake cylinder with a wrench. There is one fixing screw at the top and one at the bottom. It takes two wrenches to screw the fixing screw. One wrench fixes the outer screw head, and the other wrench rotates the middle nut counterclockwise to remove the screw. If the screw is too tight to turn, spray a little universal lubricating antirust agent to lubricate it. After the brake cylinder is removed, don't hang it there. It's best to hold it with something, otherwise it's easy to tear the wire on the cylinder.

Remove the old brake pads. The brake pads are generally 2, 1 outside the brake disc and 1 inside. After removing the old brake pad and comparing it with the new brake pad, you will find that the old brake pad is obviously much thinner.

Jacking back brake cylinder piston
The next step is to push back the piston in the brake cylinder. Because the new brake pad is thicker than the old brake pad, the wheel cylinder cannot clamp the new brake pad without pushing back the piston in the wheel cylinder. This requires a piston jacking tool. Install the piston jacking tool into the slave cylinder, support the piston, and then turn the handle to Jack the piston back.

Install new brake pads
Before installing the brake pads, it is best to clean the mounting bracket of the brake disc, because there is a lot of brake powder on the bracket. If it is not cleaned, it is not easy to jam the brake pads, and noise may occur when stepping on the brake.

Clean the brake cylinder and clamp the brake pads. If there is an alarm line, connect the alarm line. Finally, screw back the screws on the cylinder and the brake pads are installed.
Then step on the brake several times with your foot until you can't step on it. This is to return the cylinder piston that has just been pushed back.

3.Running in new brake pads

The last thing to do is to run in the new brake pads. Find a way with few people, drive the car to 80 or 90 kilometers per hour, then step on the brake slowly, come back several times, let the brake pads run in, and the brake pads are finished!
