About caliper parameters

Number of pistons: generally, the greater the number of pistons, the greater the total area of the piston, and the more uniform and linear the output of the caliper

Structure and material: one piece is better than two pieces, but  in view of the cost, all street calipers of AP Racing are two pieces. The material is aluminum alloy

Brake disc size: lever principle. The larger the brake disc, the greater the braking torque

Piston area: if the piston area is large, the caliper force is large, but the piston area should match the master cylinder of the original vehicle. If the area is too large, it will backfire

Net weight: the caliper does not include the weight of the brake skin. On the premise of ensuring the strength, the lighter the weight, the more conducive to the unsprung weight reduction.

Brake skin area: the larger the area, the better the heat dissipation and the lower the wear. The increase of brake skin area will also increase the friction coefficient to a certain extent, but the effect is not great.

Why should we change multi piston calipers?

Most of the original automobile manufacturers are single piston floating calipers. Even if there are two or three pistons on one side, it can not be called multi piston calipers,

The multi piston caliper disperses the braking force originally acting on one point to two or three points, and the size of each piston is different. When braking with the 6-piston caliper, the small piston comes out first, followed by the middle piston and finally the large piston, which greatly reduces the situation of braking hitting the wall and nodding.
